A refrigerant called ammonia

A refrigerant called ammonia

The refrigerator that we are using right now to keep our pizza and beverages frozen and fresh came a long way to be what it is right now. Different designs and coolant was introduced before. Let’s go back in time and see how a great inventor change everything like use a coolant that is being use until now which is ammonia and let’s see how it works

The industrial revolution sparked the application and development of mechanical refrigeration. Large industrial system still uses ammonia up until now as a refrigerant in large industrial system to preserve our food and beverages. A compressor filter is being use in order to made sure that the coolant is free from contaminants.

Ammonia refrigeration is getting popular and is being use on building, this increase efficiency output on power consumption.  Ozone depletion is a big problems a couple of years ago that is why fluorocarbons has been replaced with ammonia because they do not harm the environment and doesn’t cause global warming.

Ammonia was introduced by Ferdinand Carre as a refrigerant. He was the one who refined the basic concept of using it in refrigeration as a coolant. Their properties to expand faster than water cause it to absorb more heat. The refrigerator that Carre invented worked by means of cycle in which ammonia vapor was absorbed in a liquid that is heated. The heat caused the ammonia to vaporize, thus creating a cooling effect. Carre’s refrigerator got very popular and remains the basis of most refrigerators today.

Joe Shemoe invites you to learn more about Fluitek a world leader on providing high quality industrial filter. For over 25 years, Fluitek has been helping customers with their every filtration need. From helping the occasional small-item shopper to supplying large factory floors, we’ve covered some ground over the years to learn exactly what our customers are looking for.

Mercatus, Vimmerby Sweden is building up a complete new chip handling and coolant filtration plant for one of our customer. The filtration consist of a 60.000 liter big scrap tank together with pre-filter drums and fine filtration as well. The total flow in this plant is approx. 6000 liter / minute and separates particles down to 15 µm in full flow. Mercatus is a complete supplier of all kind of chip handling and coolant cleaning systems – big or small and our strength is system design based on our customers demands

Please help me to solve this problem?

a packed-tower stripping column (the packing is used to promote air-water mass transfer) if to be used as a pretreatment to remove ammonia from an industrial wastewater. the feed stream flow rate i 500,000 gallons per day (gpd), and has an NH3 concentration of 500 mg NH3-N/L in the effuent stream. Calculate how many moles of NH3 must be stripped per day.

has any of you or someone you know ever got sick from working at a wastewater plant?

i worked at a wastewater plant for 3 years and i knew i was getting sick shortly after i started.i didnt know what was wrong.then about 1 yr after i quit there,i got really bad…
i ended up bwith heart failure, emphazema (smoking was part of that)but i was around alot of lime dust, hypothyroidism, copd, severe muscle dammage, exc…
i was around hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, methane and some other gases…as well

Ahem so about changing filter media …?

I have 5 aquariums. All of them have filters canisters with a biofilter that’s permanent, and a carbon filter media cartridge. I also have a small sliver of sponge and some rocks in the bottom of the canisters for room for more bacteria to grow on, since I have had times where changing filter media throws my tank back into cycling. Anyways it’s been months now and the carbon filter cartridges that I’ve been rinsing in buckets of old tank water monthly are getting really gnarly. They aren’t torn up but I think they might need to be changed. Am I doing this prematurely? Will this cause my tank to start the nitrogen cycle again or have an ammonia spike? How often should I be putting new carbon filter media cartridges in into my filter canisters?

TIA

AquaClear ammonia remover filter media?

I’m cycling my 20 gallon fish tank and i have an AquaClear150(30) filter and there’s 3 filter media that you buy, foam, carbon, and ammonia remover. Should i remove the ammonia remover, will it ruin the cycling process? If i remove it…should it be removed forever or should i put it back in when the tank is done cycling? I’m doing a fishless cycle using ammonia.

When seeding a tank, how long must you leave the old filter media in the new tank’s filter?

I have a 20 gal mature tank and set up a new 55 gallon this past weekend. My 20 gal has a small 5-10 gal aqua tech filter and a penguin 125. I took half the gravel from the 20 gal and placed it in the new tank and carbon cartridge from the aqua tech filter, i placed into the new filter for the new tank. The new one is acrylic and has no room for me to add the small filter directly to the tank. Now I have new fish in the 20 gallon and am wondering how long should I wait to put the carbon cartridge back into the proper filter on my established tank. Oh and the 55 gallon has 6 zebra danios and 9 cory cats in it, so there is an ammonia source. In my 20 gal the new fish started scratching for a day so I added meds. and treated for 3 days, during this time I had the carbon cartridge from the penguin in the new tanks filter also. I have since put it back in the 20 gallon.

How fast does it take for a tank to cycle with cycled filter media?

From what some tests are showing me im completely shocked because with my old 10 gallon aquarium i did the nitrogen cycle with fish and it took 8 weeks. but i have a 29 gallon tank and i set it up last night at 8 and its saying i have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and like 0.5 ppm of nitrates and i wondering if that means that it will be done cycling over night or late tomorrow?

How much filter media in 120 Gal tank and What type??

I am starting a 120 gal. fish tank. It’s been set up for 6 weeks fishless cycling and I’m now just feeding the bacteria 2-3 Tbs few times a week until I get fish. My question is I bought a Fluval FX5 filter for it with 1 bag of pre-filter and some carbon (I realize now that I didn’t really need carbon unless I got dirty water but too late). The fish I want to get are 6 serpae tetra, 3 bala sharks, 6 angels, at least 8 cory cats, and possibly 2 rope fish several months later. Or should I get some more media before adding that many fish or go slower… There is tons of space left in filter but I’m on a tight budget to be able to afford the fish and a few more decorations. I need help figuring out time frame on which of the fish to add right away, which to wait a few weeks and when to add more media if it’s going to be needed. With the media now and 3 Tbs every day I am getting near zero ammonia, zero nitrite and I have another question on here with my NitrAte situation.
I bought this tank specific so I could finally have Bala sharks since they couldn’t go in my 30 gallon. If this is STILL too small what is a very similar looking fish that would work instead I love their coloring? How long would it take for them to grow to full size and then I could trade them back in???? I can forgo the ropes if I absolutely have to.

If you are treating wastewater containing ammonia and want nitrogen removal, do you need nitrification first?

If you are treating wastewater containing ammonia and don’t want nitrogen in the effluent, do you need to have a nitrification process in place before the nitrogen removal stage?

Whats the best water conditioner and ammonia detoxifier?

I`m going to petsmart in a little bit to take care of some fish needs and need some more of that kind of stuff.

Also, what on earth is HBH Aqua-Pure ammonia reducer? A friend of my dads gave us a 40 or 50 gal tank along with the setup, all the fish products, basically 00 worth of stuff. This product was included and I have no idea how to use it. I dont need to use it yet, but it would be a good idea to know how to.

It says to place rinsed zeolite granules in aqua-pure filter media bad of other filtration equipment. What does that mean?
No it isnt new. The previous owner had the tank for several years. She got rid of it because she was moving and didnt have enough room for it. There was only one fish left but it died.
