A refrigerant called ammonia
The refrigerator that we are using right now to keep our pizza and beverages frozen and fresh came a long way to be what it is right now. Different designs and coolant was introduced before. Let’s go back in time and see how a great inventor change everything like use a coolant that is being use until now which is ammonia and let’s see how it works
The industrial revolution sparked the application and development of mechanical refrigeration. Large industrial system still uses ammonia up until now as a refrigerant in large industrial system to preserve our food and beverages. A compressor filter is being use in order to made sure that the coolant is free from contaminants.
Ammonia refrigeration is getting popular and is being use on building, this increase efficiency output on power consumption. Ozone depletion is a big problems a couple of years ago that is why fluorocarbons has been replaced with ammonia because they do not harm the environment and doesn’t cause global warming.
Ammonia was introduced by Ferdinand Carre as a refrigerant. He was the one who refined the basic concept of using it in refrigeration as a coolant. Their properties to expand faster than water cause it to absorb more heat. The refrigerator that Carre invented worked by means of cycle in which ammonia vapor was absorbed in a liquid that is heated. The heat caused the ammonia to vaporize, thus creating a cooling effect. Carre’s refrigerator got very popular and remains the basis of most refrigerators today.
